Description

Exploring themes in the current exhibition, we are screening this recent documentary following photographer Edward Burtynsky as he visits slag heaps, e-waste dumps, huge factories and recycling sites. The film observes changes in landscapes due to industrial work and manufacturing.

In many of these landscapes, scores of anonymous workers become specks of canary yellow and blots of bubble-gum pink, a pointillist population. The angles of their bowed heads and raised arms, carefully arranged before assembly lines, are just some of the decorative, precise formal elements. Note how those angles dovetail with those of the machinery. – Manohla Dargis, NY Times
